Message from the Local Monitoring Committee

The Local Monitoring Committee of Mousehole School represent the community of the area, the school staff and the parents.

We are a body of people totally committed to supporting the Headteacher and staff, ensuring that the education of all the children reaches a high standard and that every child is enabled to fulfill his or her potential.

We support school activities and monitor the achievements of the children in all aspects of school life.

We do our best to ensure that the seven years that most of our children spend at Mousehole School are happy and successful ones and that they go on to the next stage of their education with confidence and happy memories of the time they have spent here.

If you wish to talk to any of us at any time, there will always be someone prepared to listen and to advise how best you can go about solving any problems you may have.

Mrs Elizabeth Garner

Chair of the LMC

Liz has been most fortunate to spend her entire working life in education, and, although now retired, she has not lost her passion for her vocation. During her working life she worked in four different schools, and has taught all ages from Reception to 18. She started out as a History teacher and ended her career as a head teacher, and she can honestly say that she never had a day when she wished she had entered a different profession. Mousehole is the fourth school where Liz has been involved in school governance, and for her it’s a real privilege to be involved in this component of the local community.

Ms Fran Pender

Deputy Chair-LMC

Fran has had happy and positive connections with Mousehole School for a long, long time! Not only was it her childhood school, she has also been a parent governor and is currently the vice chair of the LMC. Fran worked for Cornwall Council for many years as both an Education Welfare Officer, as well as a Family Group Conference Coordinator, so feels that she has many appropriate experiences and skills to help support our very special school. Fran feels very proud of her connections to Mousehole, and would want all pupils to share a similar pride and love of this amazing place.

Mrs Lisa Rendle

Parent representative LMC

Lisa has been part of the Mousehole School community for many years, with her children attending for the past twelve. She grew up just outside Mousehole and has spent over twenty years working in education, including the last seven teaching in a local primary school. Lisa is a coach at Mousehole Rowing Club, where a number of school families get involved. She is committed to helping create the best possible environment for every child to learn and grow.

Mr Rick Gill

Co-opted member of LMC

Rick has been a member of the Local Monitoring Committee at Mousehole since 2024 and has responsibility for monitoring the SEND provision at school. He brings the experience and knowledge of twenty years as a Primary School Headteacher in West Cornwall as well as a deep affection for the unique culture and environment at Mousehole school.
When not pottering in his allotment he enjoys both playing and listening to music of all styles and genres.

Mrs Mandy Owen

Co-opted member of LMC

Mandy has lived in Mousehole for 24 years and during the first 6 years had very strong connections with Mousehole School as her 2 sons were pupils and she was an active member of Friends Of Mousehole School. Having moved here from ‘Up Country’ the village school was a a big part of how she got to know others in the village and many of these friendships have continued through to the present day. Mousehole School provided an excellent foundation for her boys’ education, their network of friends and their sense of belonging within the community.
In addition to the personal link with the school, Mandy had a professional interest as she worked as an educational psychologist and managed a team of psychologists who provided a service to all schools in the area. Inclusion and the understanding of how schools support and meet the needs of all children was a focus of her work for many years. Since retiring from full time work Mandy became involved in volunteering at the Solomon Browne Hall and the community garden (shared with the school) and she is pleased to have become a member of the LMC.
Mandy feels fortunate to live within sight and sound of the village school which is an important part of the beating heart of the village

Mr Alan Gibson

Alan has lived in Mousehole for 5 years, having retired from a varied career predominantly in retail. He is currently church warden at Paul and chair of the Penlee Cluster of Churches. He looking forward to sharing whatever skills and experience may be helpful to the LMC. Whilst not a teacher himself, he has close family who are or have been in primary education. When Alan is not busy at church, he enjoys fishing from Mousehole harbour and keeping bees in Penolva.
